Grading New York Knicks’ Side Of Trade
The New York Knicks took the first big swing ahead of the NBA trade deadline in an intriguing way. Landing Cam Reddish and seeing what the No. 10 overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft can achieve in a larger role is a calculated risk that’s worth taking.
Reddish has been efficient as a threat out of spot-up and transition due to a combination of his catch-and-shoot ability and athleticism. He’s shown flashes out of pick-and-roll and handoffs at times, too. It’s not easy to find wing players with upside of that kind.
Parting with Kevin Knox II in the package is a short-term benefit when considering he was still taking up around $5.8 million in salary for this season. He is set to become a restricted free agent in the offseason and was not even part of the Knicks’ regular rotation to this point.
Still, it’ll be important to see what kind of contract extension Cam Reddish ends up receiving from the New York Knicks before making a complete long-term grade. But, for now, taking a chance on a wing with potential using another team’s protected first-round pick is a sound risk to take.

Another factor to take into consideration is that New York now has two of Zion Williamson’s star teammates from his Duke days in RJ Barrett and Reddish. If the Knicks eventually were to land Williamson and adding Reddish had even a small part to do with it, that’s quite an extra layer of value.
