Does this trade make sense for the New Orleans Pelicans?

The idea of adding De’Aaron Fox surely seems like it makes sense for the Pelicans given their need for a backcourt leader, but trading away Brandon Ingram is not something New Orleans should look to do.

Since joining the Pelicans ahead of the 2019-20 season, Ingram has made the All-Star Game once and he has averaged 23.6 points, 5.6 rebounds, 4.6 assists and has shot 46.1% from the floor, 38% from three-point range.

Brandon Ingram has established himself as one of the best scorers in the NBA 24-years-old or younger, so why would they want to trade this kind of player away?

Zion Williamson is great when healthy, which is a very bold “when”, but Ingram is the face of this franchise right now. For years, the Pelicans have found themselves in an endless cycle of trading away their best players.

They did so with Chris Paul back in the day, they did so with Anthony Davis two seasons ago and then with Jrue Holiday ahead of last season. Keeping the great, young talents that they have now is a must for the Pelicans because they clearly are not getting anywhere trading them away!

Trading away Brandon Ingram sets the Pelicans back once again in their rebuild process and would be a detrimental move for this franchise, even if they were to add De’Aaron Fox in the process.
