Why New York Knicks Must Pursue De’Aaron Fox

The New York Knicks have to find a way to upgrade their lineup without breaking up its core. While Julius Randle has frustrated fans this season, he is still the best player on the team and if they want to make any noise, he needs to improve his performance.

RJ Barrett should be a part of that core as well and isn’t a player that should be included in a trade. Upgrading around them should be the front office’s goal, and they do that with this deal to land De’Aaron Fox.

Fox has shortcomings as a defender, as his fundamentals on that side of the court leave a lot to be desired. However, he could bring that scoring punch and playmaking that New York has been desperate for. At 24-years old, he would become the franchise point guard they have been seeking.

Fox would create a dynamic scoring trio along with Barrett and Randle. There could be some spacing issues, which would make Evan Fournier that much more important as his 3-point shooting would be imperative to making things work.

New York is including some depth to acquire De’Aaron Fox but is getting some back. Maurice Harkless could be an answer as the defensive wing the team is seeking. Alex Len is a serviceable big man that can bring an added dimension to the frontcourt with his 3-point shooting ability.

This trade would leave the New York Knicks a little short-handed at the power forward spot, but they would have open roster slots to bring in free agents if need be. The draft picks they are surrendering won’t set the team back either, as they have multiple picks in each of those drafts.
