Charlotte Hornets Finally Get Big Man They Always Wanted

Charlotte Hornets Receive: C Myles Turner
Indiana Pacers Receive: F P.J. Washington, G/F Kelly Oubre Jr., CHA 2024 1st Round Pick (Top-5 Protected, Conveys 2 years after prior obligation to NYK)

Out of all the teams in the NBA, the Charlotte Hornets have been the one team that has constantly checked up on the Pacers in regards to Myles Turner. They have had their eyes on him dating back to when he was drafted in 2015 and the Hornets really need to fix their frontcourt.

Replacing Cody Zeller with Mason Plumlee has helped Charlotte this season, but they are still horrid on defense.

The only way for this roster to get better and become a real playoff threat right away is to find an anchor defensively at center, which is exactly why the Charlotte Hornets want Myles Turner.

LaMelo Ball, Terry Rozier, Gordon Hayward and Miles Bridges are most likely off-limits in trade talks for Charlotte this season, which means they will need to be prepared to sacrifice some of their scoring and youthful talents.

Kelly Oubre Jr. has been having a terrific season in his “sixth-man” role with the Charlotte Hornets and P.J. Washington is a young talent that seems to be expendable to this team.

Washington has stepped up from time to time for Charlotte, but he has just one more year left on his rookie contract after this season and the Charlotte Hornets may not be ready to pay him long-term.

P.J. Washington has been good both in the starting rotation and off-the-bench, but he has not been a game-changer for this team. The Pacers need some more young talents to build around moving forward and replacing Turner in the frontcourt with someone like Washinton definitely has its advantages for this organization.

The Pacers need some kind of change, but they do not necessarily need to “rebuild” right now. Simply “re-tooling” with guys like Washington and Oubre Jr. allows the Pacers to still remain competitive both now and moving forward.

Waiting until 2024 for a first-round draft pick may no be something Indiana is too happy about, but there is certainly value that they can get from Charlotte in this trade.
