5. Christian Wood

The Houston Rockets made their intentions clear during the 2021 offseason. They are tearing things all the way down in a rebuild, as they made four first-round selections and picked a teenager with each selection.

They are going to be open for business, looking to trade away the veterans on the team. John Wall and Eric Gordon are two players they would love to move on from if possible. D.J. Augustin could possibly be had as well. Another name to keep an eye on is Christian Wood.

Wood is the Rockets’ best player and at 26-years old, he isn’t old by any means. But, would it be good business for Houston to sign him to a lucrative contract extension knowing the team is still far away from contending?

Wood’s recent run-in with assistant coach Jon Lucas also isn’t a great look. Could the losing be getting to him? His production has slipped a bit this season after he played at an All-Star level last season.

Despite that, there should still be considerable interest in him should the Rocket make him available. He could transform a starting five with his two-way play, providing that unicorn skill set as someone that can stretch the floor as a go-to scorer with good rim protection.
