Would this trade make sense for the Toronto Raptors?
For the Toronto Raptors, this trade would be all about getting a superstar. As much as Anthony Davis has been struggling this season, he’s still a top 15 player in the NBA when it comes down to it. While the Los Angeles Lakers need to prioritize depth, the Raptors could stand to prioritize the opposite – star power.
The last time this team won a championship, they did so by putting a team of quality players around a superstar – Kawhi Leonard. Davis is still only 28 years old, and even without Pascal Siakam and OG Anunoby, the Raptors would have a great team around him.
Fred VanVleet has been playing like an All-Star this season, Scottie Barnes has all the potential in the world, and Gary Trent Jr. has all the makings of an elite two-way guard. That sounds like a very similar combination of pieces that the Raptors had around Leonard.
Adding Davis to this roster would give the Raptors a go-to guy on both ends of the floor. He could thrive in the paint, but also on the perimeter with Barnes and VanVleet giving him other options to work with. Talen Horton-Tucker would give them another young asset to work with, too.

Trading for Davis would definitely be a bold move, and one the Toronto Raptors might not be willing to make. But when looking at the combination of players they’d have left after this deal, it’s certainly an intriguing option to think about.
