The Houston Rockets are approaching the NBA trade deadline holding an 11-28 record—ranking at the bottom of the Western Conference. Could they look to move on from some veterans like Christian Wood?
Wood put together a breakout campaign during the 2020-21 season with averages of 21.0 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 1.7 assists. Many felt as though he would become a long-term member of the Rockets’ core to build around. After landing Jalen Green instead of Evan Mobley in the 2021 NBA Draft, that was only furthered.
The Rockets have continued to be a terrible team that is a long way from being a legitimate contender. Wood originally signed up to be part of a contending team led by James Harden, not to be in a rebuild.
Recently, Wood served a one-game suspension after displaying ‘bad behavior’ during a recent loss.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and Tim MacMahon. Wood refused to check into a recent game when Rockets coach Stephen Silas signaled for him to go back in.
“Wood showed little inclination to check into Saturday’s games when [head coach Stephen] Silas called upon him, sources said, and Silas quickly moved on to other players. (John) Lucas also confronted Wood at [halftime]. and at least one other of the team’s young players challenged Wood, telling him that, as a veteran, Would should be setting a standard, sources said.”

The Dallas Mavericks were mentioned as a potential trade option for Wood by Bleacher Report’s Greg Swartz alongside the Charlotte Hornets and Golden State Warriors.
Could the Mavericks swing a deal for Wood? Swartz mentioned ‘a combination of first-round picks and/or young talent for Wood’ as a potential return for the Houston Rockets.
The Dallas Mavericks lack much for option in both departments unless Josh Green and a future first-rounder gets it done. Anything more as a base of a trade package would be probably too much for them to afford.
