Why The Dallas Mavericks Should Pursue Jerami Grant

The Dallas Mavericks are not a team anyone wants to face in the postseason. As long as Luka Doncic is healthy, he can create enough magic to steal a few wins. But, they need to upgrade the roster around him if they want to seriously contend, and Jerami Grant would provide them that kind of upgrade.

Grant would provide Dallas with more defensive versatility at the forward spots. He can defend both positions and in a pinch even slide over to the center spot in small ball scenarios. While they would certainly be welcomed with open arms, it is what he can bring offensively this season’s Mavericks will appreciate the most.

Grant provides another player that can create his own offense on his own. Too often the Mavericks’ only source of self-creating offense is from Luka Doncic, who also has a lot on his shoulders setting up teammates.

Knowing they have someone in Grant they can throw the ball to and get a basket makes this easier for head coach Jason Kidd. Lineup combinations would be endless as well with Grant capable of filling three spots in a lineup.

Dallas has been in the market for a secondary ball-handler alongside Doncic, but a move of that caliber is unlikely to raise the team’s ceiling as much as acquiring a player of Jerami Grant’s caliber. They would have a very intriguing closing lineup with Doncic, Brunson, Tim Hardaway Jr., Grant and Porzingis that should have enough to get the job done on both ends of the court.
