The Player The Dallas Mavericks Should Pursue

The Dallas Mavericks have a few specific needs they are going to look to address. They could use another point guard, especially if Jalen Brunson is going to remain in the starting lineup as the secondary ball-handler alongside Luka Doncic.

Improving the frontcourt wouldn’t be a bad route to take, as the Mavericks know all too well how injury-prone Kristaps Porzingis is. They could certainly use another shooter to help improve a team that is ranked 25th in the NBA in 3-point percentage at 33 percent.

Finding a player to check all of the boxes isn’t feasible, but there is one player they should aggressively pursue; Jerami Grant of the Detroit Pistons. Detroit is reportedly taking calls on Grant and the Mavericks should be one of the teams making a call.

Grant took a gamble on himself when he signed with the Pistons last offseason and it paid off. He showed that he can be the go-to option for a team offensively and was capable of more than being an elite role player.

Contending teams are now lining up for his services and the Pistons, while they do not want to move him and he has shown no inclination of wanting to leave, would be smart to cash in.

A package of Maxi Kleber or Dwight Powell, Dorian Finney-Smith, Josh Green and a first-round pick works financially. Detroit would likely ask for more, but that could be the framework of a deal.
