Jerami Grant, Detroit Pistons, NBA Trade Rumors
NBA Analysis Network

The Detroit Pistons may be tied with the Orlando Magic for the fewest wins in the NBA this season, but they are going to be a team that many people keep an eye on in the coming weeks. Despite being 10 games out of a spot in the NBA Play-In Tournament, the Pistons could have a major impact on the postseason.

That is because they could change the landscape of the NBA depending on how active they are on the trade market. If the Pistons make forward Jerami Grant available, there will be teams lining up to acquire his services.

Any team with a pulse in the playoff picture could be interested in Grant. At 27-years old, he still has plenty of prime years remaining in his career.

Much like Aaron Gordon last season, Grant is eligible for an extension this upcoming offseason, so that is something a team looking into acquiring him will have to consider as well. If an extension is worked out, he will look to cash in on a lucrative deal in 2023.

Despite the looming contract situation, that has not deterred teams from showing interest in acquiring him. According to James L. Edwards III of The Athletic, contending teams are getting in touch with the Pistons frequently.

Grant came to Detroit a season ago to spread his wings as a player (among other reasons, too). He’s done that. The 27-year-old has turned heads with the Pistons, showing that he is capable of providing more offensively than he was able to show in his previous stops. Teams with championship aspirations are routinely calling Detroit about Grant’s services, sources tell The Athletic.

Grant’s ability to full numerous roles, and do them all well, is what attracts contending teams. No matter the makeup or need of the roster, there will be a role to fit Grant into.

He has experience being an elite role player with the Denver Nuggets, something he could be asked to do again depending on the team that acquires him. Grant also showed with the Detroit Pistons he can carry an offense for stretches as a go-to scoring option.

Whoever is lucky enough to land Grant in a trade will be providing a sizable upgrade to their roster. The price to acquire him will not be cheap, however, as there will be plenty of suitors bidding against each other.
