There’s a lot to like about Christian Wood when he’s engaged. The Washington Wizards are a good enough team to where Wood would be motivated to contribute.
The Wizards are one of the NBA’s least efficient spot-up shooting teams and that’s a real problem considering it’s the most frequent play type in half-court offense. Daniel Gafford is a non-shooting threat since he’s a dirty work specialist, so inserting Wood as the starting five could add a needed shooting dimension.
Wood is not just limited to standstill spot-up shooting when accounting for his overall jump shooting ability. He can be deployed in pick-and-pop and even come off pindowns or other creative screening actions. Essentially, he’s a motion shooting threat within reason.

Managing to move on from Davis Bertans’ contract would be another benefit of making this trade for the Washington Wizards. Moving on from Rui Hachimura wouldn’t be an easy choice but it could be a necessary one to land a talent like Wood.
