After an impressive 14-8 start to the season, things have cooled off a bit for the Washington Wizards as they are now 18-18 overall. They are still very much in the midst of being a playoff contender as they rank 8th in the Eastern Conference standings. Adding another piece into the fold at the NBA trade deadline could bring a solid push.
Bradley Beal is the leader of this Wizards team and finally having depth at virtually every position, Washington is one of the better teams in the league record-wise and they could absolutely look to add more talent before the trade deadline.
Spencer Dinwiddie and Bradley Beal have the backcourt covered and then both Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Kyle Kuzma have the backcourt covered, but their frontcourt remains a mystery.
Montrezl Harrell has played well off-the-bench and Daniel Gafford is starting to come into his own as a starting center in this league, but Rui Hachimura’s status moving forward remains uncertain and Christian Wood could really elevate the Wizards on the offensive-end of the floor.

The Wizards are one of the best scoring teams in the paint this year, but their offensive rating ranks just 21st in the league and they are only averaging 106.5 points per game (21st) this season.
Offense is where the Wizards need to improve and by adding Wood, they would not only have more depth in their frontcourt, but they would have a big man that can adequately run pick-and-roll sets with both Dinwiddie and Beal, while also being a factor to score off said sets.
Maybe they are not true title contenders, but in order for the Wizards to continue finding success on the floor, they are going to need their frontcourt production to step up offensively.

Neither Harrell nor Gafford have the scoring potential of Christian Wood, which is why targeting him would make sense for this team.
However, the cost to get him from the Rockets could wind up being way too high. The Wizards are in a good spot right now and if they have to give up a ton of draft picks and young talents to acquire him, this may not be the best move for this franchise to make.
