Things have been a struggle at times for the Boston Celtics this NBA season. They are in the thick of the playoff race in the Eastern Conference with a 14-14 record, but it is hard to envision them making any noise come playoff time.

The Celtics have battled some injuries this season, as Jaylen Brown has been sidelined on two separate occasions. While playing through injuries is always difficult for a team, it should not impact the level of effort that is put forth by the team.

Boston looks like world-beaters one night, blowing out their opponent and then on the next, they put forth a lackluster performance, eventually turning things up but it is too little too late. They are a team currently lacking an identity and it shows with how they play.

The organization underwent some drastic changes this offseason, as the front office and coaching staff were overhauled. The roster experienced some changes as well, but the core of the team remained intact. The biggest move they made was bringing back Al Horford, who was part of this core as recently as the 2018-19 season.

The Celtics have a good centerpiece with Brown and Jayson Tatum, both All-Stars and only 25 and 23-years old. But, they are not the best fit together on the court. Could a change be coming sooner than later to that pairing?

While making an appearance on SiriusXM NBA Radio, Jake Fischer shared his opinion on the Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum pairing. He believes this is the beginning of the end for that duo.

“I think this is definitely the beginning of the end for the Jayson Tatum-Jaylen Brown pairing,” Fisher continued. “I don’t know if that will get broken up this season. But I think sometime in the next 12-18 months we’re really going start to hear about to hear the conversations about the future of Boston with Jaylen Brown heading out the door.”

There had been some reports in recent months about the possibility of the Boston Celtics trading Jaylen Brown. He would only be included in a deal for a star player, with Damian Lillard and Bradley Beal being mentioned as two options.

If the Celtics were to make Brown available, tons of teams would line up to acquire him. He is an excellent defender with a budding offensive game. The Cal product has the tools to be a go-to scorer, but as long as he is playing alongside Tatum he will never get his full shine.

For Boston to return to prominence, trading Brown may be a necessity. A return package for Brown would include either an All-Star or multiple pieces to help balance out the roster and get the team back on track.
