This Rockets-Timberwolves Trade Involves Christian Wood

Rebuilding is never an easy thing to do in the NBA, but the Houston Rockets have a really solid foundation to build on right now. James Harden is no longer a part of this organization and they do not have any other All-Stars on their roster, but Jalen Green, Jae’Sean Tate, Kevin Porter Jr., and Christian Wood are all promising-looking building blocks for the future of this organization.

Christian Wood currently has one of the best contracts in the entire NBA, as he is making just $13.6M this season and $14.3M next season, and has been a “diamond in the rough” for Houston.

Since joining the Rockets ahead of last season, Wood has averaged 19.3 points, 10.2 rebounds, 1.1 blocks and has shot 49.4% from the floor, 35.9% from three-point range. Solidifying himself as a Top-10 big man in the league right now, Christian Wood is definitely someone that can be the face of the Rockets moving forward.

However, there are some concerns about whether or not Houston will keep Wood long-term. They would certainly like to if they can, but the 26-year-old big man is expected to draw a significant amount of interest when he becomes an unrestricted free agent in 2023 and the Houston Rockets would run the risk of losing him for nothing.

There have been talks about Wood possibly being a trade target of several teams across the NBA this season and while the Rockets have not given any indications that they are willing to move their star center, ESPN’s Tim MacMahon said recently that Houston will be “willing to listen” to offers that come their way for him.

Wood is expected to have several suitors ahead of the trade deadline this season and one of them could very well be the Minnesota Timberwolves. Looking to make it back to the playoffs for the first time since 2018, the Timberwolves have been having a solid season, but are looking to add some more frontcourt help.

Having one year left on his contract after this season and playing at a high level, Wood could be the missing link the Timberwolves need to make a serious playoff push this year.

How he would fit in next to Karl-Anthony Towns really is not a serious question to ask because of Christian Wood’s ability to play the power forward position and given his ability to step out on the perimeter, Minnesota may be able to assemble the best frontcourt in the league.

Could we actually see the Houston Rockets and Minnesota Timberwolves link up on a trade involving Christian Wood? Let’s take a look at what this deal could end up looking like.
