Does this trade make sense for the Philadelphia 76ers?

Obviously with all the rumors surrounding the Indiana Pacers and Portland Trail Blazers right now, Daryl Morey and the Sixers’ front-office are going to take their time figuring out what is next for Ben Simmons trade talks, which is fine.

They should not be looking to rush this decision, but they do need to reach a decision this season.

The 76ers are currently in “Tier 2” in the Eastern Conference where they are right on the brink of contending for a title, but they really would not have a shot against teams like the Nets, Heat and Bucks at full-strength in a 7-game playoff series.

To jump into that “Tier 1” again like they were in last season, they need to trade Ben Simmons for a player(s) that can come in and immediately give them production on either end of the floor. Dejounte Murray is not only a multi-talented offensive player, but he is one of the best defensive guards in the league.

In addition to adding that “third high-level talent” they have been searching for, the 76ers would be adding a sharpshooter on the wing in Doug McDermott and a versatile, young talent in Devin Vassell who is starting to grow into an impactful two-way player.

They get depth, a rising talent at the point guard position and help on both ends of the floor, so why wouldn’t the 76ers want to make this trade?

Unless they are in talks with Portland for either CJ McCollum or Damian Lillard, this is probably the second-best trade the Sixers will get for Ben Simmons right now.

Whether or not the Spurs are willing to give up said assets for Simmons remains a big question to be answered, but from Philadelphia’s standpoint, there is no reason for them not to make this trade.

Dejounte Murray makes them just as good on defense as the 76ers were with Ben Simmons and he would make them better on offense, so there is nothing really that Philadelphia can complain about in this deal with the Spurs.
