Boston Celtics Not Focusing On Jaylen Brown Trade

There has been some discussion recently about what the Boston Celtics could do to turn things around and cement themselves as a playoff contender in the Eastern Conference. Making a move at the NBA trade deadline is always a possibility, as Boston has some pieces to build a package with.

But, it is debatable about how much value some of those pieces have. Unless the Celtics are willing to unload one of Jaylen Brown or Jayson Tatum in a deal, they likely aren’t going to move the needle too much.

Brown has been the subject of some trade talks. It was recently predicted by Jake Fischer that it is the beginning of the end when it comes to the Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum pairing.

“I think this is definitely the beginning of the end for the Jayson Tatum-Jaylen Brown pairing,” Fisher continued. “I don’t know if that will get broken up this season. But I think sometime in the next 12-18 months we’re really going start to hear about to hear the conversations about the future of Boston with Jaylen Brown heading out the door.”

While that may be something that the Boston Celtics look into down the road, for now, they are not looking to make any trades involving Brown. Instead, they are evaluating who they can target to help upgrade the roster around their All-Star duo.

On a recent episode of The Crossover NBA Show with Chirs Mannix and Howard Beck, Chris Mannix shared that the Celtics aren’t concerned with a Brown trade. Instead, making a deal to augment the roster with him is their focus.

“ There’s never really been much consideration given to trading Jaylen brown. What they’re concerned with within the Celtics is… Do they have the right pieces around these guys?”

That is certainly up for debate. The Celtics are in the midst of an identity crisis, as they do not know what kind of team they want to be. They looked to have one earlier in the season, committing to the defensive end of the court, but their inconsistent effort has not made that possible.

This likely isn’t an issue that the Boston Celtics can fix midseason. It is something better suited for addressing in the offseason. While it is not the focus right now, unloading Jaylen Brown likely is the best way for the Celtics to balance out and upgrade the roster.
