The Indiana Pacers are one of the teams that could be very active in the coming weeks leading up to the NBA Trade Deadline. There was a report that they are ready to rebuild, something they have resisted doing given the small market that they are in.

But, would they have hired head coach Rick Carlisle just to lead a team rebuilding? There are certainly mixed signals coming out of Indiana and people will be paying close attention to what happens.

The Pacers are currently 12-16, but some numbers point to the fact this is a team that is better than their record. They are just painfully poor at closing out games, as they are 1-8 in games decided by three points or less and 4-13 in games that are inside a five-point margin with less than five minutes to go.

A few breaks in those waning moments and the Indiana Pacers could be challenging for a spot outside of the NBA Play-In Tournament in the Eastern Conference. At the end of the day, you are what your record says you are and the Pacers’ record says they aren’t a very good team.

LATEST NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Spurs Interested In Trade For Pacers’ Domantas Sabonis

A shake-up of the roster is something that has been needed for a while but has never come. It sounds like they are ready to do it this season, and Domantas Sabonis was one of the players mentioned as a possible trade candidate.

If Sabonis gets his wish, he will be on another team. According to The Action Network, Sabonis wants out of Indiana and his wanting to leave isn’t anything new.

“Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer reported that Domantas Sabonis wants out of Indiana. That’s what I was told by multiple league sources as well, and that it wasn’t just this season, but instead going back to last year Sabonis was looking for a change of scenery.”

The two-time All-Star would likely net Indiana the best trade package of any player on the team. While Sabonis has seen his role adjusted this season, as he is getting fewer touches offensively, he is making the most of them by having the most efficient season of his career.

Trading Domantas Sabonis always seemed unlikely, as Myles Turner was the big man most often mentioned in trade rumors. But, if the reports are true that Sabonis wants out, he could surprisingly be the part of their jumbo frontcourt pairing that is on the move.
