Trade Kevin Knox, Kemba Walker

Option number one for the Knicks is an easy one – leverage players on their roster that do not hold much of a role.

Kevin Knox has stepped up in the absence of Obi Toppin and R.J. Barrett, but he is not someone the Knicks are going to be holding onto much longer. There were some rumors at the beginning of the year that New York was looking to trade Knox and most recently, Shams Charania of The Athletic has stated that “numerous teams” are inquiring about the fourth-year forward’s availability.

The Knicks drafted Kevin Knox 9th overall in 2018 and he was a part of the young group that was supposed to help change this franchise for the better, but after his rookie season, Knox’s minutes dropped drastically and he completely fell out of the rotation.

Standing 6’7” with a 6’11” wingspan, Kevin Knox was thought to be a potential “3-and-D” player on the wing, but the young forward has barely played for New York and is in the final year of his rookie contract.

Trading him now makes the most sense, especially if the Knicks are able to acquire a player of any position who has years of experience under his belt. Whether it is alone or in a trade package, the Knicks will likely be trading Kevin Knox this season and they need to be able to bring in an impactful bench talent for him.

Kemba Walker is also another player the Knicks may have to move on from ahead of the trade deadline this season. He is currently out of the rotation and with his fit not really working out next to Derrick Rose, Alec Burks and Immanuel Quickley in the backcourt, it would be smart for the Knicks to try and get assets for him now.

Packaging Kemba Walker’s and Kevin Knox’s salaries together would add up to be about $14.5M, allowing the Knicks to target a handful of key talents across the league.

Terrence Ross, Malik Beasley, Thaddeus Young, Taurean Prince and Marvin Bagley III are just a few of the many names New York could look to target in a trade involving Kemba Walker and Kevin Knox.

Currently $19M under the tax line for this season, the Knicks have plenty of room to bring in another impactful player on a bigger contract, which is why we should expect this front-office to pull some strings and make some trades ahead of this season’s NBA trade deadline.
