This Celtics-Hawks Trade Sends Cam Reddish To Boston

This NBA season has been very difficult for the Atlanta Hawks because of all of the injuries they have had to deal with. Last year’s first-round pick Onyeka Okonguwu has not played at all this season and with Bogdan Bogdanovic, Cam Reddish, De’Andre Hunter and Solomon Hill all dealing with injuries, Trae Young and Co. have been limited.

Young has continued to be fantastic and is looking like he is en route to his second consecutive All-Star game and both John Collins and Clint Capela have continued to produce, but Atlanta is going to have to add some more depth ahead of the trade deadline if they are to have a shot at making it back to the Eastern Conference Finals.

Depth has always been a strength of the Hawks and it proved to be last season when they made their miraculous playoff run, but it is hard to be competitive when some of your best players are injured.

When Bogdanovic and others return, Atlanta will once again look to be one of the better teams in the Eastern Conference, but it is very realistic that they could look to trade Cam Reddish. There were some trade discussions surrounding the young wing ahead of the 2021 NBA Draft and while no real trade materialized, it seems like discussions are picking back up with him.

According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, rival teams have expressed interest in Cam Reddish recently and those teams believe that the Hawks are interested in getting a first-round pick in exchange for him.

This was rumored to be the asking price for Reddish ahead of the 2021 NBA Draft and it would make sense that the Atlanta Hawks would be interested in trading him. When healthy, Cam Reddish has been a spark off-the-bench for them, but Atlanta is running into a financial problem.

With new contracts given to Trae Young, John Collins, Kevin Huerter and Clint Capela in the offseason and a contract extension coming up for De’Andre Hunter, the Hawks may not be able to afford to keep Reddish, hence the interest in potentially trading him leading into the final year of his rookie contract.

None of these “rival teams” have been mentioned by name, but it seems like the Boston Celtics could be one of these several teams interested in adding a young wing like Cam Reddish. They not only have several trade exceptions to use, but the Celtics’ bench has been terrible once again and this team needs to add more talent if they are to be a real championship threat.

Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown cannot carry the Celtics on their own, which is why adding Reddish to their second-unit could be something that intrigues Boston’s front-office. So could Boston pull off this trade with Atlanta?

Let’s take a look at a trade scenario that would send Cam Reddish to the Boston Celtics and not just a first-round pick back to Atlanta, but a familiar name as well.
