The Houston Rockets are on an impressive winning streak despite not having Jalen Green and Kevin Porter Jr. in the lineup. After losing 15 consecutive games to drop their record to 1-16, the Rockets have reeled off seven straight victories. They are riding the longest win streak in NBA history following a losing streak of that length.
Houston has some impressive wins during this stretch as well. They have defeated the Chicago Bulls and Brooklyn Nets, the top two teams in the Eastern Conference, and the Charlotte Hornets.
How exactly are the Rockets accomplishing this? A big reason has been their performance offensively. They have scored at least 114 points in six of the seven victories and they are getting everyone involved.
Houston isn’t relying on one person to carry the load offensively. Four different players, Christian Wood, Jae’Sean Tate, Eric Gordon, and Danuel House Jr., have led the team in scoring during those eight games.

They are moving the ball and everyone is contributing as they are averaging 28.4 assists per game during the winning streak, a vast improvement over the 20.2 they averaged previously during the season. They were dead last in the league in assists per game before the winning streak.
Jae’Sean Tate has been an excellent facilitator and is stuffing the stat sheet on both ends of the court. He is averaging 15.3 points, five rebounds, 5.3 assists, one block, and one steal during the winning streak.
Another standout has been Garrison Mathews. It likely isn’t a coincidence that the Houston Rockets began winning games when his role was increased on the team. After averaging 17.5 minutes per game in his first four appearances and the team losing every game, he is averaging 33.7 since and the team has not lost.

Houston is getting contributions from up and down the roster with Jalen Green and Kevin Porter Jr. sidelined and the team has responded hugely after there were some rumblings that head coach Stephen Silas could be fired if the team didn’t show some improvement and start winning some games.
