Atlanta Hawks Receive: G Caris LeVert

In order to increase their chances to make it back to the Eastern Conference Finals, the Hawks need another guy on the wing who can not only create space for others, but be a primary scorer when Trae Young is not on the floor.

When you look at Atlanta’s roster as a whole right now, John Collins sticks out as a high-level scoring threat at the power-forward position, but the vast majority of the Hawks’ production on offense is spread out. This is not a bad thing at all, but outside of Trae Young, this team does not really have a guy that they can depend on to give them double-digit points every night.

Bogdan Bogdanovic is definitely one of those guys who can provide consistent scoring, but he is currently out with a sprained ankle and his availability moving forward this season could be in jeopardy depending on if he aggravates this injury.

Regardless if they have Bogdanovic or not, the Hawks need another talented scorer on the wing and they can get that with Caris LeVert. Since the start of the 2019-20 season, LeVert has averaged 18.7 points, 4.1 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 1.2 steals and has shot 43.2% from the floor, 33.1% from three-point range.

Playing for the Nets and Pacers in this time span, LeVert has always been a reliable secondary scorer, which is why he could thrive next to Trae Young on the wing. Giving up LeVert after just acquiring him last year would be a tough ask for the Pacers, which is why Atlanta would have to give up quite a bit of assets.

Cam Reddish and Jalen Johnson are two young players that would fit in nicely to the Pacers’ rebuilding plans and they are a team that has shown interest in Reddish in the past.

Ahead of the 2021 NBA Draft, the Hawks were interested in acquiring a lottery pick and they did hold some conversations with the Pacers about a trade that would involve the former first-round pick.

By giving up Caris LeVert, Indiana would not have much talent left on the wing, hence why they could still be interested in Cam Reddish. Jalen Johnson was drafted 20th overall this past year and the 19-year-old is an extremely athletic player who still needs time to mature and grow.

However, his length and versatility offers promise that he could be a terrific two-way forward either on the wing or in the low-post for many years to come. Both he and Reddish would be essential pieces to the Pacers as they look to rebuild.
