How This Trade Impacts Indiana Pacers
The Indiana Pacers are currently on the outside looking in of the playoff picture in the Eastern Conference. They have some talent on the roster but things have yet to come together for Rick Carlisle’s return to Indianapolis.
It would make sense for the Pacers to take some chances on younger guys, especially since the roster could look drastically different at this time next year. KZ Okpala would help provide some depth on the wing, where Indiana is still waiting on T.J. Warren to return from injury.
Landing the 22-year old Okpala for the 32-year old Brad Wanamaker would be a shrewd move for the Pacers front office. Wanamaker is buried on the depth chart as the third point guard, so acquiring a high-upside wing player for him would present solid value.
Okpala has not received many chances in the NBA but has an intriguing profile standing 6’8” and weighing 215 pounds. You cannot teach that kind of size and length, as Okpala is the prototypical two-way wing. Indiana would be able to provide him a better chance at developing his skills, especially if they fall out of the playoff race and start looking toward the future.
