At 13-10, the Hornets look like a formidable team in the Eastern Conference this season and right now, they currently rank first in the league in points per game.

This Hornets team is very talented on offense and has plenty of guys who can score in double-digits every single night, but their frontcourt is a real weakness of this team on both ends of the court. Finding reliable play from their big men has been a problem, hence why they could have a significant amount of interest in someone like Christian Wood.

LaMelo Ball, Miles Bridges, Gordon Hayward and Terry Rozier have the Hornets in a position to not only contend for a playoff spot this season but potentially go on a run and be this year’s “surprise” team like the Knicks and Hawks a season ago, but they need to add more talent to their frontcourt.

If the Hornets can land Christian Wood without having to give up Miles Bridges, they should definitely pull the trigger on said deal. Maybe they will have to trade away P.J. Washington, but right now, Mason Plumlee is not going to get the job done for this team all year long.

Not only is Christian Wood extremely affordable, but he is slowly turning into one of the more reliable big men in the league and is a force on the offensive-end the floor. Not to mention, he is getting better defensively and is a better defensive big man than that of Mason Plumlee on the Hornets’ roster right now.

For the Hornets, their only weakness this year lies on the defensive-end of the floor and this is because their frontcourt is a mess. Mason Plumlee is not the future for the Hornets and while they have young guys like P.J. Washington, Jalen McDaniels, Vernon Carey Jr. and Nick Richards, none of these four guys really seem like standout defenders.

While Wood is not a force on defense, he does provide a sense of being a shot-blocker and makes the league’s best offensive team even better, which is why he is a player they would be willing to roll the dice on.
