Turnovers could very well tell the tale of the game

There are not many weaknesses to the Golden State Warriors, but turnovers have seemed to be a reoccurring theme for them so far this season. They may have one of the most balanced offensive/defensive attacks in the NBA right now, but the Warriors are averaging about 16.1 turnovers per game, which is the third-most in the league right now trailing just the Houston Rockets and Minnesota Timberwolves.

Given how well they play defense, the Warriors are oftentimes able to limit their opponent’s chances to score in transition off of turnovers, but the Phoenix Suns are no ordinary opponent. They are a championship contender just like the Warriors and their offense does not make too many mistakes.

The Phoenix Suns rank 9th in the league in points off of turnovers this season (17.3 points) and they are only averaging 13.5 turnovers per game on offense, the 10th best mark in the NBA this season.

Chris Paul is one of the most consistent point guards in NBA history and he is not called the “Point God” for no reason! The future Hall-of-Famer is averaging 2.3 turnovers per game on the season, but has an assist-to-turnover ratio of 4.39 to 1 so far this season, the 7th best in the league and second out of players who consistently start for their team.

Being able to force the Warriors into making bad decisions on the offensive end of the floor and then running in transition to get 3-on-2 or 2-on-1 opportunities offensively could very well swing the tide of this game in favor of the Suns.

Paul, Booker, Bridges, and others are more than capable of pushing the tempo of play and the Phoenix Suns currently rank 4th in pace of play this season, so turnovers on Golden State’s side of things could very well shift the balance of this game.
