The Golden State Warriors are heading into a major showdown this week against the Phoenix Suns. The two hottest teams in the NBA will be taking part in a home and home this week, with the teams facing off on Tuesday night at Footprint Arena and then Friday night at Chase Center. The Suns have one game in between, against the Detroit Pistons, at home on Thursday before traveling to take on the Warriors.

It will be a great matchup for fans to take in, as the Warriors have the best record in the NBA at 18-2, while the Suns have won 16 straight games. Something will have to give on Tuesday night, as the Warriors certainly wish they had Klay Thompson back in the lineup for that one.

Thompson is moving closer to a return to the court, as he took another positive step in his rehab process. On Sunday, the Warriors announced that Thompson and James Wiseman had been assigned to their G League affiliate, the Santa Cruz Warriors.

This is a major development for Thompson, who was cleared for full practice last week. It was the first time in over two years that Thompson could partake, as he has not appeared in an NBA game since Game 6 of the NBA Finals against the Toronto Raptors in 2019.

It has been a long road back from the torn ACL he suffered in that game and ruptured Achilles that occurred 18 months after that. But, there is a light at the end of the tunnel, as Thompson is just mere weeks away from returning to the court.

The stop with the SC Warriors is just the next step in that process. Thompson will be taking part in the practice with them and hopefully scrimmaging.

“Klay will be scrimmaging, and James will continue his work,” Kerr said before Sunday’s game against the LA Clippers. “I don’t think [Wiseman] is scrimmaging yet, but Klay will be doing 5-on-5.”

The Golden State Warriors were originally targeting Christmas Day, December 25th, for Klay Thompson’s return to the lineup. That could be pushed up a few days, but there is one thing for certain; we will see Thompson back on the court sooner than later once again.
