Doug McDermott – San Antonio Spurs
Another Spurs player who the Toronto Raptors could consider targeting ahead of the trade deadline is Doug McDermott, who the Spurs signed this past offseason to a three-year, $42M deal.
McDermott spent the last three seasons in Indiana with the Pacers before joining the Spurs this season and has always been a sharpshooter from three-point range. With the Pacers, Doug McDermott shot 41.1% from three-point range, which is why he could be a big-time addition for the Raptors in the middle of this season.
The Raptors currently rank 15th in the league in three-point shooting and they could definitely use more depth on the wing, especially given the injury concerns with guys like OG Anunoby and Pascal Siakam. Doug McDermott can either play the small-forward or power-forward position, making him a versatile addition for a team like Toronto.
Seeing as they had a chance to sign him this offseason though like every other team in the league, it is hard to imagine that the Raptors would want to target Doug McDermott. Toronto would definitely benefit from having him on their roster, but his long-term contract is not too favorable and why would the Spurs want to give him up.

If the Spurs did not want to keep Doug McDermott long-term, they would not have signed him to a three-year deal, so unless the Raptors are willing to give up a ton of value to get him, which they likely would not be willing to do, San Antonio is not going to give him up.
In terms of fit, this trade would wind up making sense for the Raptors, but there are too many concerning factors financially for this trade to work involving Doug McDermott.
