Robert Covington – Portland Trail Blazers
The Trail Blazers are in trouble if they do not make a big move at the trade deadline this season, so it is unlikely that they will look to be “sellers”, but Robert Covington is definitely an intriguing trade target the Suns should consider.
Now in his 9th season in the NBA, Covington has always been known to be a reliable “3-and-D” type player either on the wing or at the power-forward position. Given how well Jae Crowder has fit in this system, it is not hard to believe that Robert Covington could find equal success off-the-bench.
Since joining the Blazers, Covington has averaged 8.1 points, 6.2 rebounds, 1.4 steals, 1.2 blocks and has shot 38.3% from three-point range. Phoenix does not have many weaknesses, but one area in which they could look to add more depth is at their power-forward position behind Jae Crowder.
While Cam Johnson has played well in his combo-forward role, he is not a true power-forward and oftentimes gets targeted by bigger, stronger opponents that back him down in the low-post. This would not happen with the addition of Robert Covington and the Suns could utilize Johnson more on the wing at a true small-forward position behind Mikal Bridges.
