Would this trade make sense for the Sacramento Kings?

The Sacramento Kings have allowed their playoff drought to reach a staggering 15-years — making it the longest active drought in the NBA. Even with De’Aaron Fox, the team finds themselves on the outside looking in of the play-in through 19 games played.

There is still a chance the Kings manage to breakthrough and get into a play-in spot. However, the team faces a slowly growing disadvantage as they trail the Minnesota Timberwolves and Denver Nuggets — who hold the two play-in spots — by two-games.

The Kings have invested a lot into guards in recent years using their first round picks on Davion Mitchell and Tyrese Haliburton. If Sacrameneto were to tear down the roster, they would already have a young backcourt in place to make the focus of their efforts.

Would trading Fox for Domantas Sabonis answer any of the Kings’ problems? The team struggles defensively and having him as a center probably makes that worse. He’s also been unable to lead his own team to wins and while he’s been highly efficient as a finisher near the basket, there are real limitations to his game.

If the Kings were to trade Fox, it would need to be for a return that is more predicated on future draft picks or with a younger piece that has fewer limitations. Sabonis just isn’t a great option for a team looking to tear down their roster after moving Fox.
