Christian Wood – Houston Rockets
Christian Wood has one of the best contracts in the NBA given his value and if the Spurs can land him in a trade with the Houston Rockets, they would be setting themselves up for a lot of success both now and moving forward.
Since joining the Rockets, Wood has averaged 19.4 points, 10.1 rebounds, 1.1 blocks and has shot 49.6% from the floor, 35.5% from three-point range.
There is nothing that he cannot do on the offensive-end of the court, which is why he could be a menace for other teams to try and deal with next to other young, athletic players on this Spurs roster.
In pick-and-roll situations with Dejounte Murray, teams would have to respect the fact that Christian Wood can hit outside shots, but also collapse in the lane because of Murray’s explosiveness and ability to attack the rim. Someone would be left wide-open in this scenario, creating a very formidable one-two punch in San Antonio.

Defensively, Wood checks off all the boxes for this Spurs team as well because of his rebounding and shot-blocking abilities.
They do have Jakob Poeltl, but he could be a player the Spurs trade to Houston, along with other players such as Derrick White, Joshua Primo and/or Devin Vassell.
Getting Christian Wood to commit long-term to the Spurs would be the decisive part of this trade though for San Antonio. Wood is only under contract through next season and then is set to become an unrestricted free agent in 2023.
If they could ink him to an extension upon arrival to San Antonio or get a verbal commitment that he will stay long-term, this trade would wind up paying off big-time for the Spurs. Their biggest problem right now is their frontcourt in terms of upside and talent, which is where Christian Wood would solidify things for them.

Being owed very little and possessing a very high upside as a 26-year-old big man in this league, the Spurs should definitely be welcoming a trade involving Christian Wood ahead of this season’s trade deadline.
