Jerami Grant – Detroit Pistons

Out of all the players in the league, one of the trade targets for the Los Angeles Lakers that makes the most sense based on fit is Jerami Grant. From his time in Denver to the player he is now, Grant is the full-package in terms of being the two-way threat the Lakers need on the wing next to LeBron James.

With LeBron James’ health in question for what seems like the first time in his career, as well as the Lakers having a long-term durability concern with some of the older guys on their roster, they need a younger, dynamic player who can fill many roles on the wing.

Jerami Grant is this kind of player and at 27-years-old, he has the perfect blend of youth and experience to help this team win another title.

The Los Angeles Lakers should absolutely pursue a trade with the Detroit Pistons, but it is highly unlikely that they would be able to get a deal done for Jerami Grant because they do not have the assets the Pistons would be looking for.

Given that they are rebuilding, the Pistons are looking for young assets plus draft picks, two things the Lakers really do not have.

Talen Horton-Tucker is a possible trade asset they could offer up, but a package consisting of him, Kendrick Nunn and a minimum contract veteran is not going to get the deal done here.

A third or fourth team would have to get involved for the Lakers to have a shot at acquiring Grant and at that point, the other teams getting involved might as well just look to acquire Jerami Grant, if he is available, for themselves!

Jerami Grant is the best trade option the Lakers could try to target ahead of the trade deadline this year, but as of right now, Detroit has shown no willingness to surrender their best talent.

While they should absolutely pursue a trade with the Pistons, it is highly unlikely that the Lakers will be able to convince Detroit to trade away their best talent, especially given that he is one of the faces of their rebuild right now.

Verdict: Pursue
