Would this trade make sense for the Brooklyn Nets?

The foundation of the Brooklyn Nets team was to have three superstars on the perimeter who can overwhelm the opposition with their talent. Right now, Kevin Durant and James Harden are getting the job done without Kyrie Irving but could use more help in some areas.

Had this been a trade scenario evaluated at the start of the season, it would likely be an emphatic no for the Nets. Kristaps Porzingis was coming off a poor playoff outing while Jalen Brunson wasn’t so hot in his own right.

Since we allow ourselves to be influenced by the play of regular-season basketball from a recency bias perspective, the perception of this trade scenario in December would be far more favorable.

Porzingis is playing as strong of basketball as he’s ever played and Brunson is pouring in a career year in what will set up a major payday as an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

The Nets could slot Brunson in at the point guard spot in the starting unit or coming off the bench while Porzingis could fill the starting center role. His shooting ability would make guarding Kevin Durant and James Harden all the more daunting of a task within the half-court.

With a new strain of the COVID-19 virus raising concerns about international travel, it would at least be worth considering moving Irving before it becomes a firm stance that New York City will not be turning back from their current stance on the mandate.
