Does this trade make sense for the New Orleans Pelicans?

In no way does getting rid of Brandon Ingram make sense for the New Orleans Pelicans, but there is no denying that they get a bunch of value in this trade. Should Ingram request a trade, this is definitely one that the Pelicans should consider because of the compensation that they get in return from Sacramento.

Buddy Hield started his career in New Orleans and coming back could be beneficial for both parties given his need for a fresh start and the Pelicans need for more perimeter shooting. As for Marvin Bagley III, he could fit in well next to Zion Williamson and Jonas Valanciunas in the Pelicans’ frontcourt and could be a player they are willing to invest in should Bagley be willing to become a “Sixth-Man” type of player in the frontcourt.

After trading away Anthony Davis and Jrue Holiday over the last two seasons, the Pelicans acquired a lot of draft capitol over the next several years and adding two more first-round picks could be highly beneficial to them finally being able to build a sustainable core.

The future’s of Brandon Ingram and Zion Williamson are very cloudy right now, especially given the Pelicans slow start. They need to be able to set themselves up for future success now, which is why this trade does make sense for them if Ingram requests a trade.

However, New Orleans should not be wanting to trade Ingram and they should not be trying to push him out in any way. This team is terrible right now and if Brandon Ingram leaves, they will likely finish in last-place in the NBA this year.

Finding ways to be successful and turn around their recent misfortunes is key for the Pelicans this season, but in the event that Ingram does in fact request a trade, this is not a bad deal for New Orleans to consider.
