Does this trade make sense for the New Orleans Pelicans?

At this point, the New Orleans Pelicans are not going to be able to get a lot of value for a guy like Tomas Satoransky. If they looked to flip him in the offseason, maybe they could have salvaged a late first-round pick, but that is not the case anymore.

His production is down and with his role being minimal in New Orleans, no team in this league is going to be willing to relinquish a lot to get him. This trade with Dallas does not offer the Pelicans a lot of compensation, but Trey Burke is someone they could use in their backcourt and they would be getting a future second-round pick that is protected.

Burke is someone the Dallas Mavericks are interested in moving and maybe he could finally find a solidified home in New Orleans. Now in his 9th NBA season, Trey Burke has averaged 10.0 points, 3.2 assists and has shot 34.7% from three-point range for his career.

While he has not played much this season in Dallas, Burke is averaging 45.5% from three-point range and for a group like the Pelicans who are shooting 33.3% from deep as a team, he could definitely be someone who sees minutes in their backcourt next to Nickeil Alexander-Walker and Kira Lewis Jr. off-the-bench.

Again, nothing about this trade screams value for the Pelicans, but at least they get something out of nothing. Tomas Satoransky’s contract is going to expire at the end of the year and if they can at least get a future second-round pick, the New Orleans Pelicans might as well trade him while they can.
