This past offseason, the Dallas Mavericks traded Josh Richardson to the Boston Celtics, resulting in a $10.8M trade exception being created.

Dallas will almost definitely be looking to use this exception this year to acquire a player that can help them immediately in their playoff push, so why not target a guy like Tomas Satoransky who is in the final year of his contract and owed just $10M this season?

Between being able to score off-the-dribble, shoot from the perimeter and create space for others like Luka Doncic, Tim Hardaway Jr. and Jalen Brunson in Dallas’ backcourt, Satoransky’s play style seems to fit that of the Dallas Mavericks perfectly.

Luka Doncic is the only real facilitator for this team and while Jalen Brunson has emerged as another key backcourt piece off-the-bench, the Mavericks seem to be missing veteran leadership on this team.

They really have no identity right now and while Satoransky is not the difference in them becoming an elite-level team, he is a key player that can play numerous different roles.

As for the New Orleans Pelicans, seeing as Nickeil Alexander-Walker and Kira Lewis Jr. are getting more playing time in their backcourt, this team doesn’t really have a need for Satoransky.

When they acquired him from Chicago, it seemed like Tomas Satoransky would have a chance to be this team’s starting point guard, but then Alexander-Walker played really well in the preseason and the team also brought in Devonte’ Graham.

Moving Satoransky is something we could ultimately see closer to the trade deadline this season, especially since the team has been unsuccessful to begin the year record-wise.

The New Orleans Pelicans have shown no signs of growth to begin the 2021-22 season and with Zion still out, this team does not present much optimism in terms of contending for a playoff spot. If they were a better team in the Western Conference, the Pelicans would most likely look to keep their roster intact, but that does not seem the case right now as we inch closer to 2022.
