Does this trade make sense for the Detroit Pistons?

Ben Simmons is definitely a better overall player than the likes of Jerami Grant, which is why the Detroit Pistons should definitely show some interest in this trade.

Whether or not Troy Weaver is actually interested in this big move for his organization is a completely different question, but the concept of Simmons for Grant definitely makes sense for the Pistons given the direction they are heading in.

Cade Cunningham is the future of this team and while he has played well with Grant by his side early on in his career, a duo of Cunningham and Simmons could be deadly for teams to try and stop, especially in pick-and-roll sets.

Two young, athletic players who are each “triple-double-like” threats with the basketball in their hands makes for some very intriguing basketball to watch and is the Detroit Pistons could keep guys like Saddiq Bey, Isaiah Stewart and Kelly oLynyk in the process, they would be well ahead of schedule in their rebuild process.

A move like this signifies to the rest of the league that Detroit is not willing to lose any longer and that they are “all-in” on their young core to compete not just in the Eastern Conference, but across the league.

Detroit has not been to the playoffs since 2019 and while they are definitely improving with Jerami Grant, their ceiling is a bit limited. He is not the difference in their potential ascension in the Eastern Conference and while he can definitely be a solid No. 2 or No. 3 contributor, he is not going to be “the guy” on a playoff contending team.

Ben Simmons has not looked like this kind of player either, but at 25-years-olds, there is still time for him to grow into the two-way superstar that he was destined to be.

Already a 3x All-Star and Defensive Player of the Year candidate, Simmons is everything the Pistons should be looking for in a young talent right now, but the negative attention that comes with him may be unwanted by this organization.
