Does this trade make sense for the Indiana Pacers?

When you look at this Indiana Pacers’ roster and how it has been constructed, it is clear to see that they have the talent to be able to compete with almost any team in the league, but they are in need of making a big move.

Domantas Sabonis, Malcolm Brogdon, Caris LeVert, T.J. Warren and Myles Turner make up a very strong looking core group of talent, but these five guys have never played together on the court due to injuries!

At full-strength, this team is definitely a force to be reckoned with, but we may never see them full-healthy.

The Indiana Pacers are not going to move Sabonis and after extending Brogdon, they are not going to move him either. T.J. Warren has not played since early last season and even though he is in the final year of his contract, Warren’s trade value is very minimal right now so he will not be traded either.

This winds up leaving Myles Turner as the odd-man-out in Indiana and his trade value is definitely the highest it will be. Leading the league in blocked shots and having just one year left on his current contract, it makes the most sense for the Pacers to trade Turner right now, but this may not necessarily be the trade to do it in.

While they would be sending him to the Western Conference, which is favorable for Indiana, the return they get from the Timberwolves is not really impressive. Malik Beasley is a key three-point shooting threat, but Jake Layman would either be waived or ride the end of the bench for the rest of the season.

A 2023 first-round pick could bring some value to the Indiana Pacers, but overall, this team is built to try and win games now. They do not want to rebuild at the moment, which is why this draft pick holds less value than imagined.

Malik Beasley is truly the only valuable asset the Pacers would get back in this trade in terms of trying to win this season and make a playoff push, but he is not neatly as talented of a player on both ends of the court as Myles Turner is.

Trading away Turner ahead of the trade deadline definitely makes sense for the Indiana Pacers, but it would almost definitely not be in this trade. They can get more value for him from another team around the league, which is why the Pacers should not make this deal with the Minnesota Timberwolves.
