How This Trade Impacts San Antonio Spurs
It’s clear that Thaddeus Young will be on the move from the San Antonio Spurs at some point. So far, there just hasn’t been a sufficient offer made that meets the team’s standards to warrant moving on from him.
What the Spurs have sought in trade talks is the inclusion of a first-round pick to no avail. An intriguing potential option could be to shift course to a younger veteran contributor that could be flipped for a return at a later period like Joe Harris, who surely would command interest.
The Spurs expect to enter the season with Young as a member of the organization and there’s nothing wrong with that happening. He may be on an expiring deal and will be gone one way or another, but regardless, he can provide needed veteran mentorship throughout the early part of the season.
Harris would bring an intriguing level of shooting to a Spurs team that was among the least impactful perimeter shooting groups in the NBA last season. Doug McDermott was already brought into the fold — meaning a sharpshooter could be on the floor at all times when both are healthy.

The Spurs do not expect to get a massive haul for Young in trade talks. Joe Harris isn’t probably what they are wanting at this moment either. However, there is a real case to be made if that were to be an option.
