The San Antonio Spurs have one of the better trade chips currently in the NBA in veteran power forward Thaddeus Young. Young was acquired earlier this offseason from the Chicago Bulls as part of the DeMar DeRozan sign-and-trade deal.
Young, Al-Farouq Aminu, a future first-round pick, and two future second-round picks were sent to San Antonio in exchange for DeRozan. Now, the Spurs are looking to cash in for a second time on Young.
San Antonio is in a bit of an awkward stage as they don’t know what direction to take the team. As long as Gregg Popovich is head coach, they aren’t going to tank for a better draft position.
They will put forth the best lineup that they can to try and win games. But, even with that thinking, the Spurs need to be realistic.

They know they aren’t going to be contending for a championship this season. So, moving Young for some future assets would make sense. He is 33-years old and would be better suited for a contending team, not a team in the Spurs position.
