The Boston Celtics have struggled with depth down low for years now. This has been a problem and it is one of the reasons why they have become an inconsistent bunch, along with their problem at the top of the offense. This is not to say that Young immediately fixes the frontcourt but he brings experience and depth.
Boston believes Robert Williams is a big man to rely on for the future. There is not much else to feel good about down low. The Boston Celtics have relied heavily on Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.
They are a strong offensive duo but leave much to be desired defensively. This is where a player like Young can take some pressure off the top two on that end of the floor.
On the offensive end, he gives the Celtics an option on the boards. Brad Stevens knows what it takes to win in this league and it would not be surprising to see him go after Young in a trade.

This is a way to improve the Boston Celtics on both ends of the floor. As a team looking to get back to the top of the Eastern Conference, this is not the worst move that Boston could make right away.
