Does this trade make sense for the Minnesota Timberwolves?
Trading Karl-Anthony Towns could have some detrimental effects on this franchise if they do not get enough value back in return. Adding the likes of John Collins, Danilo Gallinari and Cam Reddish could definitely help this organization grow tremendously, but the Minnesota Timberwolves would need another draft pick or two.
Gallinari would not be a long-term solution for them in their frontcourt and with Reddish only being under contract for one more year, getting just one first-round pick in 2022 would not be enough for the Timberwolves to accept this deal.
The good thing about this trade for Minnesota though is the fact that they would get three guys who can all make this team 10x better on the offensive end of the floor.
Taurean Prince and Jake Layman provide little to no value on the Minnesota Timberwolves’ roster right now, but Collins, Gallinari and Reddish could all be double-digit scorers next to D’Angelo Russell, Anthony Edwards and Malik Beasley.

For a team that currently ranks 26th in the league in offensive rating, adding more scorers should be a key emphasis for this front-office right now. Giving up Karl-Anthony Towns though is not the way they should go about building their team moving forward.
Towns means too much to this city and organization that trading him away would create a toxic environment between the locker room and management, especially if Towns does not request a trade out.
Minnesota needs to add more talent to their roster, but they should do so by exploring opportunities to add another high-level talent next to Anthony Edwards, Karl-Anthony Towns, and possibly even D’Angelo Russell, assuming they do not trade him.

Going after a guy like Ben Simmons as a “homerun” acquisition, or even someone like Thaddeus Young who is cheaper, makes a ton of sense for the Minnesota Timberwolves this season ahead of the trade deadline.
While they would be getting a lot of value for trading Towns, there is just no reason for this franchise to want to trade away their best player. Expect a big move from the Timberwolves this season, but expect them to be “buyers” instead of “sellers” for once.
