The Dallas Mavericks, it sounds like, have been trying to move on from former NBA All-Star Kristaps Porzingis for months. All of the excitement surrounding him being acquired from the New York Knicks is now out the window, as he has failed to live up to expectations.
A lot of the same issues that plagued Porzingis while in New York have gone with him to Dallas. He cannot stay healthy, which is the biggest issue. But, even when he is healthy enough to play, he isn’t providing the team with much of a positive impact.
Porzingis was brought on to be the superstar sidekick to Luka Doncic. Someone the team could count on as a co-star to help take them to the next level. Thus far during his tenure, he has barely produced as a complementary player.
Porzingis is being paid like a star but producing as a role player. He is constantly being outperformed by other teammates, as Tim Hardaway Jr. was the team’s second-best player during last season’s playoffs and Jalen Brunson has filled that role thus far this season.

Finding a new home for Porzingis is easier said than done. There aren’t going to be many teams lining up to acquire a player not living up to expectations, especially one as expensive as he is. But, if there is one team that is always willing to take on an albatross contract, it is the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Here is a hypothetical trade that would land Kristaps Porzingis in Oklahoma City.
