Goran Dragic – Toronto Raptors

Top Trade Destination: Dallas Mavericks

After Kyle Lowry decided to join the Miami Heat this past offseason, the Raptors were able to acquire both Precious Achiuwa and Goran Dragic from the Heat in the sign-and-trade for the All-Star point guard. Achiuwa seems to fit in well with Toronto’s long-term plans, but Dragic not so much.

The now 35-year-old former All-Star is nearing the end of his career and playing in just 4 games so far this season for the Raptors, it seems like Toronto is going to look to trade him before the trade deadline. In the final year of his contract and owed $19.4M, it is going to be tough for a team to potentially bring in Dragic, but the Dallas Mavericks are the team that keeps popping up in trade rumors relating to the veteran guard.

The Mavericks need another ball-handler and facilitator and Goran Dragic has proven to be an essential backcourt piece for a playoff-contending team. In Miami, he helped them reach the 2020 NBA Finals in the NBA Bubble and Dragic is currently good friends with Luka Doncic.

Both Doncic and Dragic played together on Team Slovenia this past Summer Olympics and the two were seen working out with each other in the offseason. This match between the Mavericks and Goran Dragic seems perfect, but the question is how will they acquire him?

It is possible that Toronto could trade him to Dallas for guys like Dwight Powell, Josh Green and/or Maxi Kleber, but it is also a possibility that Dragic will be bought out of his contract by the Raptors. Before the season began, reports surfaced of the Raptors showing no interest in buying Goran Dragic out, so it will be interesting to see how this situation plays out.
