The Golden State Warriors currently have the best record in the NBA. They are 10-1 and blowing teams out of the water on a nightly basis. They have a point differential of +13.6 as they are a top team on both ends of the court.

Golden State currently ranks third in offensive rating and first in defensive rating. They are getting contributions from up and down their roster with Stephen Curry playing at an MVP level once again.

The scariest part is that the Golden State Warriors could get better soon. They are playing without two key rotation players in center James Wiseman and shooting guard Klay Thompson. Both would lengthen and strengthen a rotation that is already playing excellent basketball.

When will those players return to the court is unknown. But, there has been another positive update when it comes to Thompson’s expected return date.

LATEST NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Warriors’ Stephen Curry Makes Emphatic MVP Case

During an appearance on NBA Countdown, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN revealed that a target date could be announced soon for the sharpshooter.

“I’m told if he continues on his current course right now in rehab, that a target date for his return will be set probably within the next couple weeks,” ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski said on NBA Countdown. “And it could be…there’s optimism it could be as soon as December 20, December 23.”

Christmas Day, December 25th, was a loose target date for Thompson, who has not played in an NBA game in over two years. The last appearance he made was in Game 6 of the 2019 NBA Finals against the Toronto Raptors.

In that game, Thompson tore his ACL and missed the entire 2019-20 season. While working out in preparation for the 2020-21 season, Thompson suffered a ruptured Achilles, ending his season before training camp even got started.

While there will certainly be some rust to knock off, Klay Thompson was a legitimate difference-maker before the injuries. He is a lights-out shooter and elite defender.

If he is capable of returning to that level of play post-injury we will have to wait and see, but as someone whose game isn’t predicated on athleticism, he could return to form quicker than anticipated.
