Does this trade make sense for the Boston Celtics?
Going out and trading for a key veteran like Terrence Ross definitely makes sense for the Celtics to add more talent to their roster, but his contract may not be too favorable for them next year.
Boston is already projected to be above the tax line for next season given the contract they currently have on their roster, so trading for Ross at this point would be a two-year investment.
As long as management is alright with the idea of having Terrence Ross on the roster for next year, as well as this year, then this trade definitely makes sense for the Boston Celtics because there is not really any real value for both Williams and Nesmith bring to this team right now.
Down the line, Nesmith has a chance to be a core player that sees upwards of 20-25 minutes per night, but as of right now, he is still at least two years away from being this kind of player. Boston needs to win now, hence why they could be open to moving young players for an established producer like Terrence Ross.

Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown are terrific talents and All-Stars in their own right, but they cannot carry this team deep in the playoffs on their own. The Eastern Conference is really good this year and quite honestly, it may be better than that of the Western Conference for once!
The Celtics are going to need all the help they can get this season if they are to try and possibly make a deep playoff push, especially given their slow start, which is why trading for Ross makes sense for them.
