NBA Exec On Lakers Roster Around LeBron James: “S–t Show”

LeBron James, Los Angeles Lakers, NBA

The Los Angeles Lakers have looked very ordinary thus far this NBA season. They are currently 5-5 as they have had to navigate a lot of injuries out of the gate.

It was one of the things many evaluators thought could be an issue for the team. Los Angeles has one of the oldest rosters ever assembled and injuries are already an issue. Talen Horton-Tucker, Kendrick Nunn and Trevor Ariza have yet to suit up this season.

Adversity is nothing new for LeBron James teams, but even he has battled some nicks in the early going. He is set to miss a few more games with an abdominal strain, the second injury he has already suffered this season. He missed games earlier because of some ankle soreness.

Without James in the lineup, the Lakers struggle mightily. When he rests during games they struggle to keep up with opponents, which is part of the reason the team acquired Russell Westbrook in a trade this offseason.

They were hopeful that having another player capable of carrying the load offensively would help improve the team in minutes James is off the court. There were plenty of naysayers, as many believed Westbrook was an awkward fit. Thus far, those people were correct.

One NBA executive went in on the roster. They believe that the team is too old and flawed to have the results that we are used to seeing from a LeBron-led team.

“Frankly? They’re not very good. Not by LeBron-and-the-Lakers standards. They’re old. They’re poorly put together as a team. LeBron, as he always did, brought in a bunch of guys he wanted to play with instead of who he should play with. It’s the same story. Rob (Pelinka) didn’t put together that team, LeBron did. And I’m not sure he’s still going to be able to make up for that. Honestly, they’re a shit show.”

Despite that scathing review of the roster, this executive believes the Lakers will finish in the middle of the pack of the Western Conference and disappoint. However, when asked what their postseason projection would be, they were not as adamant.

The executive believes it is a tough call because the Los Angeles Lakers are flawed, but Western Conference doesn’t look as deep as it was last year. An early exit could occur again for the Lakers, or they could make the Finals was the executive’s prediction.

That isn’t much of a prediction giving multiple outcomes. But, based on their opinion of the roster, they would likely lean toward an early exit more so than a deep run in the postseason.
