The Los Angeles Lakers have had an eventful offseason but it’s unclear if it’s going to work out. So far, the team is showing a real need to add perimeter shooting to better contend for an NBA title.
LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and Talen Horton-Tucker are the only holdovers from last season’s roster that are on the team this season. There are a few familiar faces, as Dwight Howard and Rajon Rondo are returning to the team after helping win the NBA Championship in the Orlando Bubble.
Trevor Ariza, Wayne Ellington, and Kent Bazemore have all played with the Lakers previously in their careers as well. Carmelo Anthony, Malik Monk, Kendrick Nunn, DeAndre Jordan were four more free-agent signings who will be making their Laker debuts this season.
Russell Westbrook was the team’s biggest acquisition. Rob Pelinka acquired him in a trade with the Washington Wizards which saw Kyle Kuzma, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Montrezl Harrell, and the No. 22 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft head east.

Los Angeles will have to work hard to build chemistry with so many new faces. But, there could be even more on the way in the future. The Lakers will be busy on the buyout market, but could also look to make an upgrade if things aren’t going as hoped in the early going.
