Alex English
Accolades: 1997 Naismith Hall-of-Fame Inductee, 8x All-Star, 3x All-NBA, 1982-83 NBA Scoring Champion, 1988 J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award Recipient, 23rd All-Time in Scoring, 153rd All-Time in Assists, 99th All-Time in Rebounds
Not many people know about Alex English nowadays because he was overshadowed by the greatness of guys like Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Moses Malone, Michael Jordan, and others in the 1980s, but the long-time Nuggets’ forward truly was an all-time great.
Averaging over 25.0 points per game for eight consecutive years from the 1981-82 season through the 1988-89 season, Alex English could not be stopped by some of the best defenders in NBA history and did so attacking the rim.
Alex English ranks 23rd on the NBA’s All-Time scoring list and he only made a total of 18 three-pointers in his career. The only players ranking above him all-time in scoring with 18 or fewer made threes in their careers are Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Wilt Chamberlain (for obvious reasons), Moses Malone, Shaquille O’Neal, Elvin Hayes, Oscar Robertson (for obvious reasons), and John Havlicek (for obvious reasons).

The interesting thing about all of these names is that they all made the NBA’s 75th Anniversary list, so why didn’t Alex English? Making the playoffs almost every season he was in Denver, English was the reason the Nuggets were relevant in the 80s.
All-time scorers in league history were highly respected on the NBA’s Top-75 list except for Alex English, which is definitely a big disappointment.
