2. New York Knicks
While Jalen Brunson was highly unlikely to be on the move this offseason, the New York Knicks were reportedly one team keeping an eye on his situation. New York has been looking for a long-term answer at the point guard position seemingly forever, and the front office feels Brunson would fit the bill.
He has plenty of fans in the Knicks’ front office, including Leon Rose, whose first client as an agent was his father, Rick Brunson. Rose believes Jalen is a bonafide, playmaking point guard. The feeling is mutual for head coach Tom Thibodeau, who had Rick on his previous coaching staff.
The New York Knicks seemingly figured out their point guard position this season with Kemba Walker singing in free agency and Derrick Rose being re-signed. The team also selected point guard Deuce McBride in the second round of the 2021 NBA Draft.
So, some would think targeting Brunson would be redundant, but the need could arise. Walker is only on a two-year deal, and at 31-years old with his injury history, it is fair to question how much longer he can be a starting point guard. Rose is 33 himself, so infusing some talent with the 25-year old Brunson may not be out of the question.
