One of the bigger surprises to begin the 2021-22 NBA season has been the play of the Boston Celtics. Coming into the season, some people thought the Celtics were dark horse contenders in the Eastern Conference and ready to bounce back after an up-and-down 2020-21 campaign.

Thus far, that has not been the case. Boston has begun the season 2-5, defeating only the Houston Rockets and Charlotte Hornets. They have already suffered some brutal defeats this season as well.

Opening night against the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden they lost in double overtime. Jayson Tatum had a brutal shooting night, going 7-of-30 from the field overall and 2-of-15 from the 3-point line. In Boston’s most recent game, they blew a 19-point line to the Chicago Bulls, losing 128-114 after being outscored 39-11 in the fourth quarter.

That prompted point guard Marcus Smart to make some comments post-game, calling out Tatum and Jaylen Brown. Smart said they need to pass the ball more to help this team win games.

There also seemed to be some veiled shots at rookie head coach Ime Udoka, as Smart said opposing teams know what they are trying to do and there is only so much help he can provide standing in the corner.

So, what could the Boston Celtics do to get their season on track? Here are three roster changes that the team must consider after the poor start they have gotten off to.
