Does this trade make sense for the Portland Trail Blazers?
Moving Nurkic and getting Christian Wood would be a great deal for the Portland Trail Blazers to make, but giving up Nassir Little and two first-round picks over the next three NBA Drafts is a lot of value to sacrifice.
Little has finally begun to prove himself in the Blazers’ system behind Norman Powell on the wing and seeing as they already have a limited amount of draft picks through the years, the Trail Blazers would be greatly crippling their ability to build a young, sustainable core around their All-Stars.
However, by going out and getting Christian Wood, the Portland Trail Blazers’ front-office would be proving to Damian Lillard and this team as a whole that they are all-in on winning right now.
A lineup of Lillard, McCollum, Powell, Covington, and Wood would be great on the offensive end of the floor and Wood would give them that little extra bit of production that they are missing with Nurkic right now.
LATEST NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Could Houston Rockets Make “Surprising” Christian Wood Trade?
At some point, Portland is going to have to make a big move not only if they are to be a real contender in the Western Conference, but if they are to keep Damian Lillard long-term.
There was a lot of talk this NBA offseason about Lillard possibly requesting a trade and while he has shot down all of these trade rumors, he is not going to stay in Portland long-term unless they prove that they can win.
Making a trade for Christian Wood does just this and adding the 26-year-old big man to their roster would solidify the Blazers’ frontcourt for years to come. If he is available, the Trail Blazers should try to pursue a trade for the Houston Rockets’ big man.
